Japanese liquor’s sake was originally family-made and later developed and transferred methods and businesses to produce it profitably on an industrial scale. Meanwhile, Cambodia rice wine has a long history and is part of Cambodian traditional culture the same as Japan, but it cannot be any household’s main source of income. Moreover, it is also dangerous for public health due to lack of technical knowledge. By noticing some glaring problems, officials at the JICA Grassroots Project collaborated with the Royal University of Agriculture (RUA) and Nagoya University to provide technical support for farmers in Takeo province to improve the production methods for traditional rice liquors including packaging standard, tamarind wine, and technical training which will help farmer producers earn more profit.
