On September 6, the Promotion of Sustainable Energy Practices in the Garment Sector in Cambodia (Switch Garment) Program was formalized by a joint effort of the Seoul-based Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and Cambodian environment and industry ministries. EU SWITCH-Asia Program 2020-2024 project was supported by the EU, aiming to “increase the competitiveness of Cambodian garment factories and decrease the industry’s environmental impact through the adoption of sustainable energy practices and facilitating investments in clean energy technologies”. Tin Ponlok, Ministry of Environment secretary of state, expresses the importance of the garment industry contributing more than 15 percent to Cambodia’s GDP and he has called for initiatives and corporations to promote economic growth by limiting negative impact to the environment.
