The Japan-Cambodia Tanabata Festival was held on Friday and Saturday at the Cambodian-Japan Cooperation Centre (CJCC) for the first since the Covid-19 pandemic ended. It’s an opportunity for Cambodian youths to experience Japanese culture and to seek work and study opportunities in Japan. The event intends to promote Japanese culture and diplomatic ties, as 2022 marks the 69th anniversary of the two nations' start of ties. The CJCC organized the key events, which included Japanese calligraphy, origami, language workshops, and a Cambodia-Japan mini-concert. According to Ambassador Mikami Masahiro, the Tanabata Festival, or Star Festival, is a traditional Japanese festival held every July 7th. According to Minister of Education Hang Chuon Naron, the event has been held in Cambodia since 2004 to foster cultural interaction between the two nations and to introduce Cambodian youth to Japanese culture.
