Cambodia's silk sector has taken off since it has begun to offer competitive economic benefits to attract more investors for future growth, while experts and industry participants are pushing for further engagement, according to a Cambodian economist, H.E Mey Kalyan, senior advisor to the National Supreme Economic Council (SNEC) and the founder and chairman of Khmer Silk Center (KSC) told that one cycle of cocoon production may yield between $600 and $700 in revenue for farmers who needn't relocate or participate in other businesses far from their homes. He has urged for more collaboration from stakeholders such as development partners. According to an agriculture economist, Silk production in Cambodia may increase next year, but it will rely on a niche market, as producers continue to improve the skills to compete with the silk's markets.
