Ball stops rolling for growth in latex export

According to the General Directorate of Rubber (GDR), Cambodia exported 161,562 tonnes of natural rubber latex worth about $254.84 million in this year's first seven months, a 558 tonnes or 0.34 percent decline year-on-year. The slight drop in exports is due to a variety of factors, including the global economic crisis downward pressure on latex demand, inflation concerns, the US Federal Reserve's recent interest rate hikes to limit money supply, continued Covid-19 restrictions in China, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and ongoing Sino-US geopolitical tensions, stated by Him Aun, GDR director-general. Last month, latex exports were 29,625 tonnes, a decrease of 1,190 tonnes or 3.86 percent year-on-year. Despite the dismal January-July export performance, he expressed confidence that the latex market and investment condition will improve significantly in the future.
