Cambodia, UN agencies call for more investment to ensure food security

On World Food Day, the Royal Government of Cambodia, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), have called for investment in transformation of the food system to ensure food and nutrition security as well as to cope with crises. The Global Report on Food Crises 2022 by the Global Network against Food Crises showed that about 180 million people across 40 countries will face inescapable food insecurity. In regards to concerns as a developing country, Cambodia has adopted the National Roadmap for Food Systems for Sustainable Development 2030. Recent market update from WFP, the price of rice has remained stable thus far despite increasing the prices of imported foods such as rising vegetable oil’s price 39.7 percent in May 2022 compared to May 2021.
