According to Meas Ny, a social development researcher, agriculture used to be the first priority sector for the Cambodian economy and until now it still has become the main sector aside from the textile-related industry due to favorable geography and a large labor force. Nonetheless, the agricultural sector has been struggling with some barriers such as water resources, lack of irrigation, processing and packaging of products for export markets, accessing to those markets, as well as lack of capital for farmers or small enterprises to grow their businesses, according to Theng Savoeun, director of the Coalition of Cambodian Farmer Community (CCFC). Hence, he calls for the government to increase low-interest loans for farmers as well as intervention by experts and relevant ministries.
