Strategic ties with Japan to attract more Cambodia investment

Cambodia and Japan announced an agreement to elevate their relation to a comprehensive strategic partnership, expected to attract more Japanese investment and wider Japanese market for Cambodian products as well as to build strong political relations with the East Asia nations. In term of economic development, Cambodia will get more direct investment from Japanese private sectors. As a result of intimate relations, bilateral trade between Cambodia and Japan reached $1.65 billion in the ten-month of 2022, a year-on-year increase of 14.1 percent, according to the General Department of Excise and Customs. Subsequently, major items Cambodia exported to Japan were garments, footwear, agricultural products, and general components when key import products were agricultural and other machinery, vehicles, and electronics.
