According to Ly Kunthai, president of the Cambodian Footwear Association, there are over 70 shoe companies in Cambodia, with the majority of their funding coming from South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, China, and other countries. At the same time, the majority of the raw materials used to make shoes are imported from China, Vietnam, and Thailand. Cambodia exported footwear, gaiters, and other 64 commodities worth $1.325 billion in the first nine months of 2022, increasing 32.69 percent over the same period last year. In any case, industry insiders noted a delay in new orders for materials and other indications of potential deterioration in exports in the coming months due to fears about post-Covid-19 global inflation and high oil costs.
