Rice mills get in on contract farming

About 41 rice millers have delivered willingness to participate in the contract-farming with agricultural cooperatives. “Contract-farming” refers to entry into pre-harvest agreements between buyers and farmers on agricultural production with established conditions, generally regarding product types, prices, quantities, quality and other standards. The primary agreement provides mills, processors, and other buyers to gain pure, superior rice in a variety of kinds with reliable origins. Besides, the farmers will also receive an assurance to sell their stock at a specific prices and hopefully to encourage innovation in processes and technology as well as the production of certain kinds, according to the president of the Cambodia Rice Federation. This agreement will also lead Cambodia’s milled rice export vision onward, he added.
