The northern Takeo facility that manufactures electronics and light bulbs was officially inaugurated on February 20. The “Cambodia’s Automotive and Electronics Sector Development Roadmap” was recently unveiled by the government with the goal of making the Kingdom a regional and global hub for the production of automotive and electronic components, attracting more investment and eventually increasing exports by billions of US dollars. According to Lim Heng vice president of Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, light bulbs, electrical equipment, electronics, other medium and heavy industry products could better position Cambodia to leave the category of Least Developed countries and achieve the government’s objectives of entering the “upper-middle income” stage by 2023 and the “high-income” group by 2050.
