The geographical indication (GI) product “launch” of “Kompot-Kep” salt has been tentatively scheduled for April 26 by the Ministry of Commerce. The Ministry’s Department of Intellectual Property Rights commonly known as CambodiaIP, stated in a statement that a crucial meeting was conducted last week to debate the name of formal association that will handle and govern the potential GI item- manufactured in neighboring coastal province Kompot-Kep, as well as the accompanying draft book of Specifications and logo. Industry insiders anticipate that the GI status will result in a significant increase in the commodity’s profile and the profile of Cambodian salt as a whole on the international stage, also a sharp increase in export sales.
