Prime Minister Hun Sen emphasised the need for the agriculture ministry to address water-related challenges faced by farmers, urging it to find ways to extend the growing season and allow farmers to produce up to three rice crops each year. Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries released two new varieties of fragrant rice that need less than 100 days to harvest after cultivation. The Premier urged the ministry to foster integration technology so that farmers could have sufficient water to grow crops and could be able to increase the capacity of harvesting. “We need to tackle the water shortage, thereby extending the growing season. By addressing water challenges, farmers can cultivate their land twice or three times a year”, he pointed out. Additionally, he suggested deploying agricultural technicians to work with farmers and teach them growing methods so that we can produce better productivity for export and boost further economic growth.
