According to the statement of the General Department of Taxation (GDT), the director general of GDT Kong Vibol requested to have a meeting with Japanese ambassador Atsushi Ueno in order to foster the negotiation on Double Taxation Agreement (DTA). In the meeting, one of the important points that H.E. Vibol highlighted was the tax-related issues facing the Japanese Business Association of Cambodia (JBAC) and the larger Japanese investment community. Hong Vanak, Director of International Economics at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, mentioned that DTA is favorable for those countries with strong commercial ties because it would provide special conditions that encourage as well as speed up trade and investment between signatories. The proposed DTA with Japan would also increase Japanese direct investment and introduce new technologies to the kingdom since Japan is a developed country with economic prosperity, he continued.
