Cambodia’s GFT woes continue, 7,696 workers lose jobs

The garment, footwear, and travel goods (GFT) sector in Cambodia is still experiencing economic difficulties as 7,696 workers from 15 factories lost their jobs as a result of a decline in demand, mostly for exports to foreign countries. Workers who lost their job will be eligible for financial support, according to the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MLVT). They will receive a monthly allowance of 70 dollars, with factory owners contributing 30 dollars and the government covering the rest. Additionally, the government made it clear that the financial support will continue while their contacts are suspended.
