Cambodia's Minister of Environment, Dr. Eang Sophalleth, has encouraged the country to plant its national tree, the palm tree, by giving away more than 300,000 seedlings each year. By 2050, the campaign believes it will restore more than 60% of the forest. For Cambodians, the palm tree provides many advantages, such as food that conveys them energy, roofing materials, and other materials. The Minister emphasized the importance of innovative plantation arrangements to facilitate harvesting and attract foreign tourists. The initiative aims to modernize palm tree plantations while also promoting Khmer national culture.
