Cambodian textile, garment, footwear, and travel goods workers will now be paid a new minimum monthly wage of $204. This is a $4 increase over the 2023 wage, which was announced in November last year after 20 stakeholder consultations. Prime Minister Hun Manet announced the raise on social media, stating that employees will be paid $204 per month, a $4 increase from December. The National Council on Minimum Wage (NCMW) established a monthly wage of $202 for factory workers in these sectors, but the prime minister increased it by $2. Employees, including those at Bayon Garment Factory, expressed concern about layoffs and reduced overtime, but the increase was deemed "better than nothing." Ath Thorn, president of the Cambodian Labour Confederation (CLC), urged all factories and employers to implement the new wage, urging companies to consider adding another $4 to the $204 wage for skilled workers.
