Cambodia logs over $84M of iron, steel imports in Q1

According to the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE), Iron and steel were imported to Cambodia worth more than $84 million in the first quarter of 2022. In spite of Covid-19 situation, the growth of private housing projects and Borey construction has still increased the demand for steel imports. It is also believed that this momentum still continues as the reopening of the country will attract more new international investors to the kingdom. For instance, iron and steel imports accounted for $26.29 million in March. As stated by General Manager and Secretary, Chiv Sivpheng, of Cambodia Constructors Association, Cambodia mainly imports steel and iron from Vietnam, Thailand, China, and South Korea (Hom, 2022).
