The Battambang Provincial Authority is contemplating establishing a Pub Street in the region surrounding Battambang town's heritage buildings to attract more tourists, but Battambang provincial governor Sok Lou said that the establishment has not been officially decided yet. According to Lou, the provincial government will design night walks and engage food vendors and entertainment venues to enliven the region before the establishment of Pub Street. Lou added that the idea to construct a Pub Street is part of a larger attempt to introduce the smart-city concept to Battambang town, which the provincial government and several Japanese governments have been working on together. He claimed that the construction of the Pub Street initiative will have no negative impact on heritage buildings and will instead help residents by increasing visitor expenditure.
