Despite being more than 28 percent completed, the construction of the Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport is behind schedule, according to H.E. Sinn Chan Sereyvutha, spokesperson for the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA). This is because of difficulties encountered during the pandemic, including high material and transportation costs as well as travel restrictions for construction experts. The airport is scheduled to be completed in March 2023 while the firm is now in the stage of building a runway and other facilities are being constructed including roads, airport parking routes, and landing systems. This airport is licensed and financed by AIAI, an affiliate of China’s Yunnan Investment Holdings Ltd, with a registered capital investment of $880 million.
